February 15, 2012 The decision by the Parliamentary Public Works Committee to recommend a $185 million upgrade of the East Sale RAAF Base has been welcomed by The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester. After a recent public hearing in Sale, the Parliamentary committee has supported the project and its recommendation has been accepted by the House of Representatives. Formal approval must now be granted in the Senate before the project can proceed. Mr Chester said the upgrade would ensure the long term future of the Base. “I’m not expecting any obstacles in the Senate and the formal approval for the project should proceed without any delays,” Mr Chester said. “There’s often speculation about the future of defence facilities but this upgrade should put an end to community concerns about the East Sale RAAF Base. “The East Sale RAAF Base has a long history in the Gippsland region and has a very strong relationship with the local community. “I will continue to work with Local, State and Federal Governments to promote the East Sale facility as an ideal location for further developments.” |
