Issue of the week
Save Our Post Office
Australia Post is proposing to relocate its postal services away from the
Franklin St post office to another facility in Church St, Traralgon.
This proposal is currently the subject of a community campaign as the
existing Traralgon Post Office is an iconic Gippsland building and its
central location provides an essential service within easy reach of public
transport.
It is disappointing that Australia Post has failed to consult with the
community before developing these proposals. I’m seeking comments from
concerned residents of the area and will compile a report from the feedback
that I receive to send directly to Australia Post.
Early responses from my survey indicate that residents are passionate about
keeping the historic Post office building in public hands – they are not
interested in another restaurant or bar opening up in the historic
premises.
I will be fighting to make sure that we don’t discard more than 100 years
of local history without any consultation with local residents who have a
great deal of affection for the Traralgon Post Office.
What do you think – send your comments now.
