ClocktowerSave Our Post Office

Australia  Post  is proposing to relocate its postal services away from the Franklin St post office to another facility in Church St, Traralgon.

This  proposal  is  currently  the  subject  of a community campaign as the existing  Traralgon  Post  Office  is  an iconic Gippsland building and its central  location provides an essential service within easy reach of public transport.

It  is  disappointing  that  Australia  Post has failed to consult with the community  before  developing  these  proposals.  I’m seeking comments from concerned residents of the area and will compile a report from the feedback that I receive to send directly to Australia Post.

Early responses from my survey indicate that residents are passionate about keeping  the  historic Post office building in public hands – they  are not interested  in  another  restaurant  or  bar  opening  up  in  the historic premises.

I  will  be fighting to make sure that we don’t discard more than 100 years of  local  history without any consultation with local residents who have a great deal of affection for the Traralgon Post Office.

What do you think – send your comments now.

Linda, Traralgon
The Franklin Street Post Office is within easy reach – when you have small children and a pram you want to have everything close making life easier.
Beverley, Traralgon
Many elderly people will be unable to walk the extra distance to the Church Street Post Office.
Cheryl, Traralgon
The Business Post Office is not large enough to accommodate the demands of both post offices.
Allan, Traralgon
Australia Post should be expanding facilities not closing facilities.
Arthur, Traralgon
The Post Office in Church Street almost always has a queue a mile long – would this not be exacerbated?
Colin, Tyers
The building is a big part of our heritage, has style and customer confidence and its facilities outstrip the Church Street building.
Jeanne, Traralgon
This landmark is the only real icon of days gone by – leave it where it is as it is.
Kathleen, Traralgon
The Church Street Post Office is too far away from the main shopping centre.
Kay, Glengarry
A lot of pensioners and disabled people come down to town by bus and taxi and access the Post Office in Franklin Street.
Ray, Traralgon
Last weekend when questioned Kevin Rudd stated ‘the iconic building would remain’ – he did not say Australia Post would occupy the building.
